- Filter Housing: This is the outer casing that holds the filter cartridge in place. It’s usually made of durable plastic or metal and has inlet and outlet ports for water flow.
- Filter Cartridge: The main component of the filter, the cartridge contains granular activated carbon. This carbon is highly porous, providing a large surface area for adsorption of contaminants such as chlorine, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and other chemicals.
- End Caps: These are attached to either end of the filter cartridge and serve to seal it within the housing. They often have built-in gaskets to prevent water from bypassing the filter.
- Center Core: The core of the cartridge helps maintain its shape and provides structural support.
- Filter Media: Granular activated carbon is the primary filter media used in a GAC filter. It’s typically made from natural materials like coconut shell or coal, processed to create a highly porous structure.
- O-rings: These are rubber seals placed around the housing’s ports to prevent leaks.
- Support Screens or Wraps: These may be present to help retain the carbon granules within the cartridge and prevent them from escaping into the filtered water.
These parts work together to effectively filter water as it passes through the cartridge, trapping impurities and improving the taste and odor of the water. GAC filters are commonly used in residential, commercial, and industrial water treatment application
